Kentucky is at a critical crossroads in the fight for reproductive freedom and gender-affirming care. As advocates rally to restore abortion rights and protect access to essential healthcare, anti-choice lawmakers continue to push dangerous legislation that threatens bodily autonomy and fundamental rights. From the introduction of bills like the Northstar and Shield Acts to counter restrictive policies, to the growing resistance against harmful measures targeting abortion access and transgender healthcare, the battle for justice in the Commonwealth is far from over.

Moving Toward Abortion Rights

Multiple rallies took place in Frankfort last week, organized by Planned Parenthood, to demand action in restoring abortion rights. On February 14th, The Kentucky House Democratic Caucus Whip (Burke-Lexington), introduced two bills aimed at protecting reproductive health access.

  • Northstar Bill- looks to restore abortion rights in Kentucky to pre-Dobbs standards,

  • Shield Bill- protect patients and providers from prosecution for seeking or offering abortion care out of state

No matter how hard they try, they cannot silence us.  We will be aggressive in the face of these threats. We will prepare. We will resist. We will fight for our patients at every turn. Because every single day we can keep our doors open is a day worth fighting for. The road ahead won’t be easy. But we are not afraid of a fight. We will weather the storm. We will not back down. And when future generations ask, ‘What did you do?’ We will proudly say — we did everything we could. And we won.”
